DAVID R. INMAN - OWNER
Mr.
David R. Inman started his Self Storage career with Mini Storage Management and
Consulting Company of Denver, Colorado (MSMCC).
Here Inman's responsibilities included day-to-day management
and operations for over 600,000 square feet of Self Storage. In addition to having
the day-to-day management responsibilities, Inman was responsible for project staff
coordination, new facility startup and complete product marketing for Self Storage
companies on a National basis.
Having had over seven years of retail management and marketing
experience as Vice President of a consumer products company in Minneapolis Minnesota
prior to joining MSMCC, Inman was instrumental in the implementation of marketing
programs that increased occupancy levels at every facility under his control.
Inman's extensive marketing and management consulting for
companies entering the Self Storage industry have placed him at the leading edge of
the "Retail" approach to Self Storage operation.
In 1985, Inman joined a Boston, MA based self storage management company. By the
end
of 1987 Inman had management responsibility for over 700,000 square feet of rental
space.
In the Spring of 1988 Inman returned to Minneapolis, MN to form
his own management and consulting company. Initially Inman provided consulting for
Investment Management, Inc. (IMI) a Minneapolis based management firm.
In the Fall of 1988 Inman and the self storage division of IMI
merged to form Storage Investment Management, Inc. (SIMI). Shortly thereafter, Inman
ventured in an entrepreneurial direction by purchasing IMI’s interest in SIMI and
becoming SIMI’s sole owner and President.
In 1990 SIMI joined forces with
Bryce Grefe and Associated
Property Management, a Boston MA based company. The enterprise has the purpose of
consolidating and furthering the joint management and consulting capabilities
throughout the North East, Mid-West and Mid-Atlantic Corridors. Currently SIMI has
management responsibilities for approximately 950,000 square feet of Self Storage
rental space.
In 1992 Grefe and Inman joined forces with a Boston, MA
Investment Group with the purpose of acquiring Self Storage facilities throughout the
North East. Through judicial usage of both cash and debt, the group has acquired 14
facilities with approximately 675,000 square feet of rent able space.
In 1997 the group filed a Federal Trademark for the name
Planet Self Storage. Current and future self storage projects will operate under this name.
In addition to the on going acquisitions, additional development opportunities are
being pursued.
